EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR was developed in the late 1980s by Francine Shapiro, a psychologist who noticed—while walking through a park—that her distressing thoughts seemed to soften when her eyes moved back and forth. Intrigued, she began studying the phenomenon and eventually created a protocol that combined eye movements with structured recall of troubling memories. Her early research showed promising results, particularly for people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Since then, EMDR has been widely studied, endorsed by organizations like the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association, and has become a mainstream, evidence-based treatment for trauma.

Scientific information describing the merits of Dr. Tiffany Stanley's Guided Meditation for Enhanced Desire

“Dr. Tiffany Stanley’s guided imagery recordings and guided imagery program have proven to be effective in helping women with sexual desire concerns. A 27-participant study was administered, using Dr. Tiffany Stanley’s guided imagery recording and daily journal exercises, over an 8-week time frame. The results indicated that the guided imagery recording had a significant improvement in the participant’s levels of perceived sexual desire/interest and lowered sexual distress, following treatment. A 50-point assessment scale was used to measure participants levels of sexual interest and desire before and after the guided imagery recording program. The scale measured the levels of sexual desire and interest for each participant. The assessment indicated that the participant’s levels of sexual interest and desire improved/ increased by at least 10 points. Participants also self-reported significant reduction in their distress symptoms, such as fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression and an increase in feelings of happiness and relaxation, following completion of the guided imagery program. The efficacy of the guided imagery program was clearly validated as a useful resource for low sexual interest and desire.”

The Proustian Memory Effect

The Proustian memory effect describes those sudden, vivid, and deeply emotional flashes of the past that hit you without warning or any deliberate effort to remember-triggered by a seemingly ordinary sensory cue, most powerfully by taste or smell.

Sexual health and STDs are often associated with the younger generations. However, contrary to popular belief, they’re an issue that also affects older people, especially those living in retirement homes. Senior living communities encourage seniors to socialize and build relationships with other residents, so it’s inevitable that sexual partnerships develop.

The Impact of the Nervous System and Sexual Experiences

The nervous system is the master conductor of sexual experiences, coordinating desire, arousal, genital responses, and orgasm through a precise interplay of parasympathetic (for relaxation and blood flow) and sympathetic (for intensity and climax) pathways, while brain regions handle emotion, reward, sensory processing, and temporary inhibition of self-control. Sexual activity, in turn, powerfully reshapes the nervous system by releasing dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins, and other chemicals that reduce stress, boost mood, enhance bonding, improve emotional regulation, and support long-term brain health—though negative or traumatic experiences can dysregulate these circuits and impair future intimacy.

Sexual Archetypes & Imagination

Sexual Archetypes & Imagination, by Wakefield, Chelsea

Psychotherapist Chelsea Wakefield has examined how guided imagery and archetypal work can broaden women’s sexual identity, using the concept of an internal “cast of characters” to help clients move beyond restrictive sexual scripts and patterns. I find this quote particularly meaningful:

“Many problems in life can be reduced to a failure of imagination. We get stuck in scripts and stories that are too small for the vastness of our souls… The sexual psyche and the range of sexual archetypes available to women are a realm of great potential, largely unexplored.”

In this article, psychologist Chelsea Wakefield explores the idea that many of our intimate challenges stem from “a failure of imagination”—from living within internal scripts too small for who we truly are. She introduces the concept of sexual archetypes and the “inner cast of characters” that shape women’s sexual experiences, highlighting how accessing this deeper imaginative landscape can lead to greater desire, creativity, and self-understanding.

Centerpointe - Meditation and Personal Growth

Centerpointe Holosync is a resource for a variety of meditations that use powerful, proprietary brainwave technology. The Centerpointe Holosync technology strengthens the “executive function” (willpower, focus, creativity) of your brain, while it calms the areas that create stress, impulsive behaviors and procrastination, simply by listening to soothing nature sounds with stereo headphones. Embedded under the nature sounds, the Centerpointe Holosync brainwave stimulator, literally enhances your brain power (safely and effectively) for tremendous (positive) changes in how you feel, think and behave. The idea of using precise sounds to alter a listener’s state of mind. Dr. Stanley has been using the Centerpointe Holosync technology since 2006 and highly recommends it’s mediation benefits.
